It was founded and funded as the Egyptian University by a committee of citizens with royal patronage in 1908 and became a state institution in 1925. In 1940, four years following King Fouad I death, the University was renamed King Fouad I University in his honour. Following the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, it was renamed as Cairo University. The University currently enrols approximately 155,000 students in 22 faculties. It counts three Nobel Laureates among its graduates and is one of the 50th largest institutions of higher education in the world by enrolment.
Egypt has always been a favourite destination for tourists from all over the world. The people are known for their warm hospitality and generosity with everyone. The conference takes place in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, a modern city having in its heart the district of Old Cairo with all the mystic flavour of ancient history. It will be great to make some time for a tour in Old Cairo embracing ancient mosques and featuring bazars where you can buy antiques and souvenirs. Do not forget to spend some time at a traditional café in the alleys of Old Cairo while drinking the traditional tea with mint leaves. You may also enjoy a lovely cruise in the Nile River to watch the sunset while having some Egyptian delicacies for dinner. A definite not-to-miss tour is to see the Pyramids as they are located conveniently in Giza, few miles away from the conference venue.
